INTRODUCTION

  India is the second largest population country in the world. However, child bearing is not an effortless endeavor for men and women in India. Infertility is growing at an alarming pace, especially in metros, says a recent report from the International Institute of Population Sciences. It is estimated that of the 60- 80 million couples suffering from infertility globally every year, between 15- 20 million are in India alone. According to a report conducted by the International Institute of Population Sciences, infertility is growing at an alarming pace, especially in the cities. Out of around 250 million individuals estimated to be attempting parenthood at any given time, 13 to 19 million couples are likely to be infertile.


          Infertility can be defined as, “A disease of the reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse” (WHO-ICMART).
